adopted a research design that was descriptive. The study population was 97 and the actual &#13;
sample size selected for the study was 77 respondents. The researcher used both simple random &#13;
sampling and purposive random sampling techniques to get the sample size for members of the &#13;
board of governors, members of Parents Teachers Association, the head teachers, teachers, &#13;
students and parents. The researcher used interview, observation, questionnaire and document &#13;
analysis methods for doing data collection. The data was analyzed in frequencies and &#13;
percentages and presented in tabular form. The study found out that many schools had seats for &#13;
use in the library, current materials and books for students in the library and for lending to &#13;
students and teachers among others. The findings from this research question revealed that lack &#13;

near the school. Government should construct adequate classroom buildings in the public &#13;
secondary schools to help promote effective teaching for students to improve academically.

<link>http://dissertations.umu.ac.ug/xmlui/handle/123456789/821</link>
<description>Analysis of community perception of education and pupils’ academic achievement in selected primary schools in Oyam District, Uganda
Adea, David
The study aimed at analyzing whether community perception of education influences pupils’&#13;
academic achievement in primary schools in Oyam district Northern Uganda. The study was &#13;
guided by the following research objectives; establishing the effect of community perceptions&#13;
of education on pupils’ academic achievement, and finally the study looked at the strategies &#13;
that the school can adopt to enhance community involvement in pupil academic achievement. &#13;
The study was underpinned by a cross-sectional survey research design where data was &#13;
collected to make inferences about a population of the study. The study used a total sample of &#13;
103 respondents. In order to adequately address the research objectives, two methods of data &#13;
collection were used, that is primary and secondary methods for data collection. These were &#13;
applied using the following instruments; Questionnaires, and interview method. Data was &#13;
analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Regression Analysis was &#13;
made to test the research hypothesis that exists between the two variables. The study finding &#13;
was that Parents whose education perception was positive their children were able to get the &#13;
necessary school requirements including school lunch, books, attending to school meetings, &#13;
having continuous assessment and guiding them where necessary which boosted their &#13;
academic achievement. On the other hand, negative community perception of education was &#13;
associated with low pupils’ academic achievement since these pupils’ lacked academic &#13;
guidance, lack of scholastic materials, inadequate academic test assessment, and high rate of &#13;
absenteeism in school. The findings on pupils academic achievement was good in some &#13;
schools while others were not as it was evidenced that for the last five years most school &#13;
never managed to get division one. The study concluded that community perception of &#13;
education influence pupils’ academic achievement, community perception of education was &#13;
found to be both positive while others had negative perception of education and the study &#13;
concluded that there was a relation between the study variables. The study recommended that&#13;
in order for the community to realize the value of education, and to ensure that the &#13;
community create a strong heart for education, there is need to build strong support from &#13;
politicians, schools needs to create their own means to improve school quality, sensitization &#13;
of the community on the value of supporting pupils during school, more attention must be &#13;
paid to maintenance of school facilities and the quality of teaching staff must be ensured. &#13;
Implication for further studies suggests that Parents and teachers academic achievement &#13;
practices need to be studied in particular

implementing career guidance services in Bududa secondary School. The study Adopted &#13;
explanatory approach using cross sectional research design. The target population included school &#13;
stake holders, teachers, and students. The sample size was 50 respondents. The study employed &#13;
simple random and purposive sampling techniques to select the study respondents. Questionnaires &#13;
and interview guides were used to collect data. Questionnaires were administered to teachers while &#13;
interview guide was administered to students. The study used statistical product service solutions &#13;
to analyze code, classify and tabulate data because it performs data entry and analysis as well as &#13;
crafting tables to report information.&#13;
 The study found out that career guidance has an effect on students’ academic performance because &#13;
it can lead to regular attendance, good syllabus coverage among others, The study also found out &#13;
that there was a relationship between career guidance and academic performance because it leads &#13;

Therefore, there is need for the government to review the current regulatory policy and legal &#13;

<link>http://dissertations.umu.ac.ug/xmlui/handle/123456789/649</link>

The study used cross-sectional survey design, the instruments used to collect data were questionnaires and interview guide. The questionnaires contained structured questions with provision of ticking the most appropriate answers. These were provided for each person a predetermined order (Davous 2002).&#13;
The findings were at Mbale Municipality. There were more males than 52% compared to females 48%. Majority of the respondents agreed that the performance of the students involved in the use of media in secondary school was with 70% therefore this showed that they must strive higher to fulfill the remaining 30%.&#13;
The study then concludes by prescribing way forward to the restoration and promotion of African cultures as it affects students with particular reference to Ugandan society.&#13;
The study therefore recommends that apart from government, teachers and parents, all should come in to sensitize the students on the negative behavior they are copying from media. This is because according to the study it was found out that many of this student use media in their leisure time and thus these behaviors are got from media.
