    Abstract
The study was conducted to establish the effect of Total Quality Management on the performance of Institutes of Higher Education organisations with specific reference to Uganda Martyrs University as the case study. The research objectives were to examine the effect of continuous improvement on performance, to find out the effect of benchmarking on performance and to find out the effect of commitment and involvement on the performance of Institute of Higher Education. These objectives were formulated by using independent variables of benchmarking, continuous improvement, commitment and involvement which were linked to the dependent variable (performance of Institutes of Higher Education) that comprises of the dimensions of completion rates of enrolled students, research publications, paper publicationsand internal efficiency of the university. The study was carried out with qualitative and quantitative study designs. The researcher worked with a sample size of 52 which was obtained out of the entire population of 60 respondents as determined using Krejcie and Morgan to derive the sample size. Questionnaire method was administered by the researcher so as to obtain data from the field. The data was analysed with help of Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) so as to populate the data to easily obtain inferences on the relationship between TQM and Higher Education Institution performance. The researcher discovered that TQM has a positive impact on the performance of Institutes of Higher Education. The researcher made recommendations that the University should seek ways of finding the staff members are accommodated within or outside the university to allow quality, staff should be motivated, improve communication through ICT and to the students the university should support their projects
